Bresser Astro Software Stellarium

Posted on by  admin

I'm trying to connect Stellarium on my windows 10 computer to my telescope (a Sky watcher 150PDS). The telescope came with a RS-232 cable but my computer does not have that port so I got a usb serial converter. I connect the telescope to the computer.

The telescope is on and all the details are entered (date, time, lat etc). I then open stellarium and got to telescope configuration and enter in the necessary information. Then after I have added it, I press start and it says connected. But when I click on Jupiter and then press control 1, the mount does absolutely nothing.

I have downloaded ASCOM and stellariumscope but not quite sure how to use them yet.Can anyone solve this? Thanks,Galatic wanderer. Thanks for the quick repliesI think I am using a good quality serial adapter. Heres the link:How do I know which comport it is?

The computer is an Lenovo X201. Do I need stellarium scope to control the telescope? Thanks again, sebFrom the windows Settings menu, go to Devices and then Device manager. The usb/serial adapter should be listed under Ports (COM & LPT).

How To Use Stellarium

The usb/serial adapter will be listed as Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COMn) where n is the assigned comm port number. Always plug the adapter into the same usb port on your computer so that the same com port number is assigned to it.And you don't need Stellariumscope to control the mount.

Stellarium Android

Stellarium's own internal mount drivers will do that.

Hi everybodyI've recently downloaded Stellarium to my laptop & I prefer it over the other programs i have installed/downloadedI'm currently using 3 others (meade, starry skies,& cartes du ciel) to control my LX90 gpswhen it comes to downloading programs to control it with Stellarium I am completely lostIs there a more simplified way of downloading these files & which folder are they supposed to go inIf any of you could help me with step by step instructions for this I would really appreciate itThanksBryan. Barry and Bryan,I am in a similar position trying to get the telescope control to work with Autostar. First of all I can drive the scope using 'the Sky' V5 lvl 2 and I can see the laptop talking to the Autostar (COM1)through a serial port monitor.I can also load Autostar updates through the Com1 port.I tried unsuccesfully to drive an LXD55 using Stellarium some time ago and gave up. When the issue was raised again here I convinced myself that if Barry can do it so can we! I now have a LX90LNT and 'the sky' and autostar updates works fine.I am using Windows XPsp2. Trying Stellarium 8.1 first and following the instructions no luck.

Best Astronomy Software 2018

Using Stellarium 8.2 it locks up loading the new config.ini file. I am now back to V9. I have set up the bat files on the desktop and like Bryan I see a dos window flash then nothing. I do not see any line activity on my line monitor. Are we missing something? Can you provide us with the files? What version are you using.?

Astro

If you can get the ETX to work then the LX90 should cooperate.I am determined to get Stellarium to drive my scope!!!HelpFiles:-(in program files/stellarium)TelescopeServerLx200.exe 153kbTelescopeServerDummy.exe 147kbconfig.ini(in documents and settings/user/stellarium)flagtelescopes = trueflagtelescopename = trueflaglighttraveltime = truetelescopes1 = Myfirsttelescope:TCP:localhost:00ThanksPhilip. Hi PhilipJohannes and I spent quite some time about a year ago fine tuning the telescopederverLX200.exe so it would work with the Autostar 494 which is the slowest of the autostars because of its unusual interface. The telescopeserverLX200.EXE sends a continuous stream of requests to the Autostar using the standard Meade protocol, common to all Meade products, even the older Magellan system, Autostar replies with the required information. This information round trip requires a finite amount of time and there is a preprogrammed delay to take care of this (the 500000 as the last entry in the request) The Autostar 494 because of its special interface takes a bit longer for the round trip so a value of 1200000 needs to be used here to improve the reliability. Now if the telescopeserverLX200.exe program is executed barefoot nothing will happen except a quick flash of the command screen because it needs more information.

This infornmation is firstly a computer port to talk to the telescope through. Just about any number can be used here between 0 and 65536 (if it has not been allocated already).Numbers from 10000 upwards depending on the number of telescopes have been arbitratedly selected as being not known to be used elsewhere but any number could be used. The next bit of information is what COM port is going to be used. Generally COM1: or COM2: are already set up on the computer so one or the other is normally used.

Make sure the telescope is in fact connected to the nominated com port. If you have a laptop with no com ports you will need a USB to COM adaptor.

Hi PhilipThe 494 and 497 cotrollers are quite different. The 494 is quite a simple device with only the basics whereas the 497 controller is more complex and similar to the LX200GPS as far as operation goes. The LX200 classic has its computer on one board in the base. The LX200GPS has its computer split up among a number of smaller boards spread out in the telescope. However all the actual controllers appear the same to a computer program such as The Sky or telescopeserverlx200.exe. These programs send a sequence of characters to the telescope and wait for a reply.

The basic systems only use the request for the telescopes current position. The command to set a new position and the command to move the telescope to the requested position. All the Meade telescopes use the same protocol for these commands. The only difference is the speed at which the respective computers respond to requests. What is the computer system you are using. All my instructions have been based around Windows XP on 3GHz pentium 4 but just about all PC's should work the same.If you cannot get the dummy controller to leave a command (dos) window on you screen when entering the line I gave you there must be something wrong with the program. The telescopeserverdummy.exe program or the way you are calling it.I assume you have telescopeserverdumy.exe not telescopeserverdummy.exe. Or telescopeserverdummy.exe.gz.

Make sure the.gz has been properly removed from the name. The telescopeserverdummy.exe should be located in the root stellarium folder. In Windows locate the command prompt from start - programs - accessories click on it. The command window will open.

At the prompt type cd to get to the root directory then cd program files, then cd stellarium This will get you to the program folderat the prompt type telescopeserverdummy.exe 10001 and hit the enter key. The program will run and say it is listening on port 10001.If you cannot get this there is something wrong with the program or your computer. If you get this then running the telescopeserverLX200.exe can be invoked the same way.Lets know how you progress.Barry. Barry, before I read your last post I decided to start again with V9 and try the Ascom driver and utility supplied by Scott Pinkham.I also loaded the Ascom drivers build 4.1.Scott's utility also updates the config.ini file (bit tricky as the V9 config file is in the user directory) In the utility I selected Meade Lx200 Autostar. My monitor utility was already loaded on COM1 so as soon as as the utility activated I could see TX and RX between the laptop and 497 Autostar.I then loaded Stellarium 9 and there were my crosshairs pointing at Jupiter! Clicking and CTRL1 slewed the telescope to order.I am going to test V8.1 and V8.2 with the driver to see if that works too.

Looks like we may have cracked it. I will try the original drivers again later just to prove a point.I'll keep you posted but this may be the only solution for me. I am using a Dell P4 1.8ghz+512mb Latitude.Philip. Hi BryanStellarium will control your LX90 very well. First thing to do is down load the necessary files. OK BryanDid you get the dummy driver too.Go about it this way.Enter your stellarium folder (in program files)Make sure you have the two drivers there, telescopeserverlx200.exe and telescopeserverdummy.exeOpen a text file (same as you would make a new folder, it's on the same menu)Type intelescopeseverlx200.exe 10000 com1:save it as tele.bat in the stellarium folder.

(it will use port 10000)Open another text fileType intelescopeserverdummy.exe 10001save it as dummy.bat in the stellarium folder. (it will use port 10001)You can now make short cuts to these two files on you desk top.If you have fixed your config.ini file as in my previous postctrl 1 will call the lx200andctrl 2 will call the dummyWhen you run the batch files a dos window will open. The dummy will tell you that the dummy is working (3 lines of text)The telescope will tell you it is connecting to the telescope and waiting for a replyWhen it gets its reply (assuming the telescope is running and connected to com 1) it will start polling the telescope and writing the information in the dos window. This will continue till it is closed. The dummy (ctrl 2)will move the telescope dummy cursor to wherever you selectThe tele (ctrl 1)will move the telescopelx200 cursor to wherever you select and the scope will follow. As I said before you can have both the dummy and telescope connected at the same time. That is why we have enabled the name. So you can tell which is which.Thats all there is to itIncidently I have the works of a LX200 classic set up on my bench and I can drive it without any bother once it gets a dummy alignment.Barry. All:I am new to the forum, but have been using Stellarium for over a year.

This is definately top-notch planetarium software - the newly released version 0.9.0 is especially exciting.Just last night, I forged through with the process of modifying Stellarium's config settings to control my Celestron C11 and CG-5 AGT mount. It took a while to figure everything out, but I am EXTREMELY pleased with the results and feel blessed that this is all FREEWARE!!!!As far as the separate telescope server, there is another site out there with a NICE little program that will automatically modify Stellarium's config file. The website is:Also, one needs to download all the latest ASCOM drivers from:After all these mods, turn on your scope, connect to the computer, open the telescope server, open Stellarium, and enjoy the experience! Press Ctrl-1 after picking an object in Stellarium, and your scope should go to that object (assuming your scope was setup properly and aligned correctly).SRF.
